Kotilaitumet, planned for Katrineberg in Vantaa, is a new village center where living, nature, and community come together. The plan combines the historical cultural landscape with a renewing lifestyle, animal care, and communal farming. Homes will be built for 1,200 new residents, and existing buildings, such as the main hospital building, will be preserved and repurposed.
The heart of the village will be a pedestrian and bicycle-friendly street, along which will be located a village shop, daycare center, school, and community spaces. The area emphasizes resource-wise construction and low-carbon building materials, such as wood and clay.
Kotilaitumet offers diverse housing for different life situations and supports strengthening the relationship with nature through farming, animal care, and landscape management. Innovative traffic and parking solutions create a pleasant and safe environment for residents and visitors.
Our team included Tommila Architects, WSP, and Tuuli Kassi.
