Our proposal “Vaellus” has been selected as a winning entry in the competition for the new center of Kontula. We participated the invited competition as part of the OPUS Architects team.
The purpose of the competition was to find a new direction for the Kontula shopping centre from the 60’s and a workable overall plan for the area, from which the ideas could form the basis when the city starts preparing the local detailed plan. Our aim was to preserve the distinctive atmosphere and spirit of the Kontula shopping center. The proposal will bring significant new residential construction to the area, while retaining places that are important anchorages to the current setting. Jury appreciated the humane scale created for the area, flexibility of the overall solution and richness of inspirational ideas for the public spaces.
